Tampa Bay Chalk Festival
PDAP hosted its 2nd Tampa Bay Chalk Festival on the Deuces in St. Petersburg, Florida on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
The sidewalks of 22nd Street between 7th Avenue South and 9th Avenue South on the historic
Deuces were transformed into a kaleidoscope of colorful squares as over 700 artists, family members, vendors, and community groups celebrated our theme, “PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT: Sustaining our Future.”
PDAP teaching artist, festival organizer, and educator Debbie Yati Garrett stated that
the rich artistic history of the Deuces makes it the perfect location for the chalk art
festival.
“This is an opportunity to bring together the community of artists, recreation centers, youth
providers, and businesses, in addition to showcasing professional artists’ chalk work from near
and far. And most importantly to give our children a day of art expression using chalk and art
while having fun,” Garrett shared.

Tampa Bay Afrofuturism Festival
In November 2024, PDAP hosts our third Tampa Bay Afrofuturism Festival (TBAFF)!
Our 2nd Tampa Bay Afrofuturism Festival (TBAFF), continued the tradition with free pop-up events throughout St. Pete, Clearwater, Largo, and Tampa.
TBAFF brings together visual artists, youth, neighborhood associations, families, tech experts, music and theater presenters, educators, and filmmakers to explore the past, present, and future of Tampa Bay’s Black and Brown community.
Last year’s theme, “Bridges: Future/Present, Future/Past,” spanned generations, experiences, communities, and mindsets, and featured an accompanying art show at The Studio@620 with an artist panel on Sunday, Nov. 12.
Last year’s additional panels included “Black Philanthropy at the Woodson Museum”, “Black Maths: The African Roots of Math and Technology” at Childs Park Rec.
Our first Community Tech Day was held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Childs Park Rec, featuring a digital wallet class and three hours of hands-on AI, 3D, and VR technology sessions for families.
