Black Tampa-based artists New Roots Art Collective hold reception at HCC
TAMPA — Gallery 221 at Hillsborough Community College showcased young Black visual creators during an online talk and reception with the New Roots Art Collective last month. New Roots Art Collective (NRAC) is made up of four Tampa-based artists committed to expanding the African-American voice within public and private art spaces.
VFA Acting and Performance Studio brings local performers a new way to study their craft
TAMPA BAY — Actress and Tampa native Vivian Fleming-Alvarez has created the VFA Acting and Performance Studio, an online program that focuses on providing training and assistance to those interested in entering the entertainment industry.

Woodson African American Museum hopes to accomplish with its new art exhibit, the aptly titled “Reverberations,” on view at the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art now through Aug. 29.
Cultured Books: A bookstore with a purpose
Hollaway, 30, owns Cultured Books on 22nd Street South in St. Petersburg. She credits an anthropology professor for encouraging her to get inside of the cultures that she wanted to study. At the same time, the number of high-profile police killings of unarmed African Americans led her to seek an understanding of why people perceive others as a threat instead of just another human.
