Marcellis Ruffner, Woke Films

From the beginning, Woke Films has been driven by the interests and involvement of our incredible and engaged community. We are a growing Film and Video Production company focused on creating conscious content while maintaining an excellent client experience. We are a great resource, offering opportunities for businesses and creatives to be active in a variety of productions and to engage with each other in an interesting and safe environment.

How long have you been involved in your creative project/art form?

MR: Film and Video, 20+ / Music, 25+ Years

What inspired you to start creating?

MR: Watching TV and listening to music is not enough to satisfy my creativity. I wanted to influence people’s emotions.

What are some important things people wanting to go into your field should know?

MR: It’s not easy and requires just as much attention to detail as any other job if not more.

Major inspirations/people who inspired you:

MR: My Mom holds the top spot. A single mother, raising one child while in the Military for 24 years. Nuff said.

Why is art important for humans?

MR: Self Expression. We are all different and we can celebrate that fact together through various mediums.

What are some ways we can support more Black and Brown folks doing creative work in Tampa Bay?

MR: Word of mouth exposure is awesome but financial help is badly needed in our communities to lift us up and even the playing field. However creativity “trumps” money any day of the week.
